Effects of Acupunture and Moxibustion on the Dementia related Melatonin Secretion and SOD Synthesis.






Abstract
The present experiments were disigned to investigate the effects of acupuncture and moxibustion on the dementia related melatonin and SOD synthesis, melatonin function on the ATPase activity, blood pressure, and heat sensitivity were also measured.
The results obtained were summarized as follows :
1. Melatonin activated sarcoplasmic reticulum Mg^(++)-Ca^(++) ATPase activity at the low concentration and inhibited it at the high concentration.
2. Melatonin activated cardiac microsomal Na^+-K^+ ATPase activity at the low concentration and inhibited it at the high concentration.
3. Melatonin inhibited the hephatic total ATPase activity at the low and high concentration.
4. Melatonin inhibited the brain cortex Na^+-K^+ ATPase activity at the low and high concentration.
5. Melatonin inhibited the heat sensitivity of mouse.
6. Melatonin inhibited the systaolic blood pressure of rat.
7. Melatonin secretion was activated by the acupuncture and moxibustion.
8. SOD synthesis was activated by the acupuncture and moxibustion.
According to the above results, melatonin roles were related wire the various animal organs, and stimulated SOD synthesis by acupuncture and moxibustion. Therefore acupuncture and moxibustion will be a hopeful tools for Alzheimer¢¥s disease treatment.
